Grandpa David brought his dog, Ted, to see Henry on Friday morning. He stayed in his cage in the car and Henry happily fed him some treats. He joined in really well at Rhythm Time, then we had a trip to Swithens Farm. Henry took some money to buy tubs of carrots to feed the animals. He was a bit scared after feeding a cow, but perked up when we saw some piglets that were born yesterday! It was very exciting! He spent a long time playing with the ride-on tractors and cars, saying hello to the animals and playing in the sand. After tea, we went into the garden to release Henry’s butterflies. He did lots of saying goodbye to them, watching them move about on the flowers. He wanted to play his colours game and do some stickers – he also asked for playdoh, but it was almost bath time so we compromised with his aquadoodle painting set as there’s no mess!
On Saturday, after breakfast, our first activity was baking biscuit and washing up. Henry made sure the spoons were licked clean before washing them though… We then had lots of fun with playdoh; mummy made a hat and a crown which Henry loved putting on his head. This led onto making hats from cardboard, sticking on foam shapes, glitter glue and pom poms. There was no need for Henry to shout “splash!” as we went puddle jumping today as the puddles were very full. We also spent some time learning the letter S – drawing it in sand and making an sss sound. We looked at lots of objects beginning with an S and taught Henry to say “slither down the snake.”
Wellholme Park in Brighouse was our port of call in Sunday. Henry has a go at riding his bike around the road circuit and then on the small ramps in the skate park. He was just getting a bit of confidence and a dog came right up to him. He was not happy! We went across to the swings and slides and he was much better then. After lunch, we went out into the garden to plant out our seedlings in the raised beds. Henry helped a bit, but was more interested in his swing. Mummy took Henry up to the main road to watch the diggers resurfacing the road. He spent a long time shouting “digger” and pointing before wanting a trip to the park. There was great excitement when he saw a worm too. After puddle splashing, we went home. We have practised S again today.
With his childminder this week, Henry visited Harold Park, Ponderosa and a toddler group. While playing with footballs in the park, Henry managed to find the muddiest part to play in and had a very noisy hour playing with musical instruments. He loved the lemurs at Ponderosa as he could get really close to them. At the sandpit, he loved touching the sand. Henry was also much more comfortable at toddlers today, just being happy to play and do his own thing; throwing soft balls around the room mainly! His childminder has noted that he is putting more and more words together: “Pasta cool down,” for example. They tried a pencil control sheet as the others were doing it, but Henry very quickly scribbled over it!
